Find your supervisor

Do you need a聽supervisor?

If you are planning to apply for a thesis-based鈥痬aster鈥檚 or PhD鈥痯rogram, you聽may聽need to鈥痠dentify鈥痑 supervisor聽to oversee your studies聽before you begin the application process.聽Some faculties will pair you聽with a聽thesis-supervisor after you are聽accepted,聽and聽course-based programs don鈥檛 require a supervisor at all.聽

To find out if鈥痠t鈥檚 necessary to鈥痵ecure鈥痑 supervisor, please check with the聽faculty,鈥� department,聽or school聽that offers聽your program.鈥�

Identifying a supervisor鈥�

  1. Visit the website of the聽faculty,聽department, or school聽that offers your program聽to discover聽current faculty members聽who share your聽research interests.鈥€�
  2. Once you鈥檝e found one or two potential supervisors, read a few of their publications to聽learn more about their area of study聽and聽to determine if聽they have the right expertise for the project or subject area you plan to聽focus聽your thesis work on.鈥�
  3. If your prospective supervisor looks like a good fit for your research interest, send them a clear and concise email explaining that you are planning to apply for聽a program in their聽faculty or department聽and are looking for a supervisor.鈥� Feel free to include your research interests as well as unofficial transcripts and a CV.
