For the attention of Dalhousie Researchers: Following review of ORS Legal processes, we are advising the following changes:
- Invention/Inventor Disclosure Forms – (state change in process for directing the forms and rationale)
- Certifications of Compliance and Investigational New Drug Application Forms – (state change in process for directing the forms and rationale)
Effective immediately, all forms listed above will now be reviewed and managed by your respective faculty office under the oversight of the Faculty Dean.
This update is part of a broader effort to streamline research administration processes and to better align these forms with the existing review procedures already managed at the faculty level. By consolidating related reviews, we aim to improve consistency, reduce duplication, and ensure timely oversight of potential conflicts.
Rationale:
Upon review of the current process for these forms, it was determined that ORS Legal does not provide any substantial input to these forms. Requiring legal review creates an extra step in the process and creates delays in the signature and submission process.
What this means for you:
Researchers are now required to submit the above forms directly to their faculty office. The ORS Legal Unit will no longer be the first point of review, if you have any questions about how to complete the form or the implications of the disclosure, please reach out to your faculty office for guidance.
The ORS Legal Unit remains available for consultation as needed.
Thank you for your attention and continued cooperation as we implement this change. If there are any questions, please reach out to orslegal@dal.ca.
